چکیده

Effect of additives on the pore structure of polymer foams obtained from Pickering HIPE templates Various routes were investigated to create pore throats in closed-celled poly-Pickering-HIPEs; we tried to dissolve the silica particles used as emulsifiers out of the thin films separating individual pores by adding NaOH into the aqueous phase, which resulted indeed in the formation of interconnects of the size of the silica particles (from about 5-10 μm). We also explored the incorporation of 1 wt.-% degradable CaCO3 particles, 25 μm in size, into the polymer (walls) followed by their degradation using HCl but the particles were too well dispersed to form interconnects (leaving just a rough pore surface after etching). Furthermore, we investigated the addition of additives such as methanol and polypropylene oxide to the emulsion template, however interestingly enough the emulsion templates remained stable but no pore throats were observed in the poly-Pickering-HIPEs afterwards.

High-Surface-Area, Emulsion-Templated Carbon Foams by Activation of polyHIPEs Derived from Pickering Emulsions

Carbon foams displaying hierarchical porosity and excellent surface areas of >1400 m²/g can be produced by the activation of macroporous poly(divinylbenzene). Poly(divinylbenzene) was synthesized from the polymerization of the continuous, but minority, phase of a simple high internal phase Pickering emulsion. By the addition of KOH, chemical activation of the materials is induced during carboni...

Processable high internal phase Pickering emulsions using depletion attraction

High internal phase emulsions have been widely used as templates for various porous materials, but special strategies are required to form, in particular, particle-covered ones that have been more difficult to obtain. Here, we report a versatile strategy to produce a stable high internal phase Pickering emulsion by exploiting a depletion interaction between an emulsion droplet and a particle us...

Macroporous foams obtained in highly concentrated Pickering emulsions stabilized solely with magnetic nanoparticles

Macroporous solid foams with magnetic properties may have interesting applications as adsorbents for purification and decontamination processes. High pore volume can ensure a high degree of absorption, and magnetic properties can facilitate removal from environment. Organic macroporous polymeric foams, with high pore volume and high degree of interconnectivity, can be obtained by polymerizing i...

Lignin-based Pickering HIPEs for macroporous foams and their enhanced adsorption of copper(II) ions.

Interconnected macroporous foams were synthesized by templating oil-in-water Pickering high internal phase emulsions solely stabilized by lignin particles. They exhibited excellent adsorption capacity for copper(II) ions in aqueous solutions.

High internal phase emulsions stabilized solely by functionalized silica particles.

High Internal Phase Emulsions (HIPEs) are important for a wide range of applications in the food, cosmetic, pharmaceutical and petroleum industries. If the continuous phase is polymerizable, HIPEs can be used as templates for the synthesis of highly porous polymers with potential applications as low weight structures or scaffolds in tissue engineering. HIPEs are characterized by a minimum inter...
